Bought A House That Had Termites In The Past? How To Keep Them Away

If you purchased a house and found out there have been termites in the home in the past, you need to take steps to keep them from coming back. First, check to see if you have them now and then hire a pest control company to help you.

Signs of Termites

There are many signs that you can watch out for when it comes to termites. The main thing is looking at wood outside. For example, if you have any wood logs sitting outside, look at them closely. If termites have been eating them, it will not be hard to tell.

Look for termite swarms outside also. There are some termites that can fly. These termites are the termites that lay eggs. The eggs then hatch, and these termites are the type that cannot fly but instead crawl. These termites will venture out looking for food. Once found they will take food back to the nest. At this point, you will soon have a lot of termites in your home.

Look on your painted walls to see if any paint is peeling. You may even see tiny holes on your drywall. If you have laminate or wood flooring, the floorboards may buckle. Look for mounds of termite wings and pellets. Squeaky laminate or wood flooring is another sign.

Pest Control Company

Termites can cause a lot of damage very quickly. Because of this, instead of trying to take care of this problem on your own, hire a pest control company. They can look for signs that you may not notice to determine if you have termites.

The pest control company can use baited traps outside to kill termites so they will not come inside your home. These baits are buried in the ground. The baits have poison inside of them that tastes good to termites. The baits are installed so they are level with the soil, so you don't have to worry about damaging them when you mow your lawn. Caps that lock are placed on top of the trap to protect kids and any pets you may have. One or two canisters of poison will be placed in each trap. It will last a long time, so you will not have to have them replaced very often.

The pest control contractor will come inside your home and investigate. If they determine you have termites, a pesticide will be sprayed. Even if they don't see termites, they may still spray your home as a safety measure.

The pest control company will give you many more tips so you can prevent damage. To learn more, contact a termite control company.
